February 2022 Wrap-Up and March TBR

Not a great reading month for me in terms of volume – but some brilliant books, so I can’t complain!

This month, I read 8 books which isn’t great for me but keeps me (just!) ahead of my 10 books a month target (Goodreads 21/120).

Two of my 8 books were an easy FIVE STARS from me…read on to see which ones!

February Wrap-Up

I started the month with the audiobook of ‘Arctic Summer’ by Damon Galgut. This follows writer E M Forster as he journeys to India and Egypt, struggles with his sexuality and ultimately writes the book of his career (‘A Passage to India’). I love E M Forster and it was a pleasure to read this fictionalised account of his life.

Next up was ‘Forget Me Not’ by Claire Allan, the choice of the Tsundoku Squad book group. I thoroughly enjoyed this pacey murder mystery thriller told from multiple perspectives.

Then I read ‘Soul Music’ by Terry Pratchett, thanks to NetGalley. I’ve read a fair few Discworld books before and this one – about the arrival of rock music onto the Disc – was just fabulous. It was both cleverly observed and very funny – my review is here.

Another audiobook followed – ‘Madhouse at the End of the Earth’ by Julian Sancton. This is the gripping story of an 1897 voyage to Antarctica that faced a lot of terrifying problems – not least the ship getting stuck in the pack ice for the duration of a long, dark and freezing winter. My review will be up soon.

And then another audiobook! It was a month when Audible did well out of me. I listened to ’24 Hours in Ancient Rome’ by Philip Matyszac which was an engaging jaunt through the daily lives of the people of the great city. My review will follow soon.

The first of my FIVE STAR reads followed – ‘See No Evil’ by David Fennell. This follows on from last year’s brilliant ‘The Art of Death’ and is another gruesome but tense serial killer mystery. My review will be on the blog closer to the April publication date.

My second FIVE STAR read was debut ‘The Echo Man’ by Sam Holland and this one is TERRIFYING! I read it in one sitting as I needed to know who was carrying out copycat murders based on those of famous serial killers. It is really grim and brutal but I could not put it down. My review will follow nearer the April publication date.

My final read of the month was ‘The Ethical Stripper’ by Stacey Clare for a Random Things blog tour. This is a passionately argued and interesting look at the sex industry written by a stripper and activist. My review will be on the blog on Thursday.

March TBR

I’m pretty terrible at sticking to any TBR I set, so here are just a few of the books that have caught my attention and which I hope to read…at some point…in the future!

I have a blog tour date for ‘A Life for a Life’ by Carol Wyer – the third book in the DI Kate Young series. Having loved the others (all set around Stoke and Staffordshire – near my home), I’m looking forward to this one.

I’ve also kindly been gifted some gorgeous non-fiction history books by publishers – so I’m very keen to read ‘The Dark Queens’ by Shelley Puhak and ‘The Mercenary River’ by Nick Higham.

Aside from this, I have my eye on some brilliant fiction – mainly historical or murdery and sometimes both! ‘Elektra’ by Jennifer Saint is edging its way to the top of my TBR along with ‘The Paris Apartment’ by Lucy Foley, ‘Dear Little Corpses’ by Nicola Upson and ‘Little Sister’ by Gytha Lodge.

I hope you have a fabulous reading month!
