WWW Wednesday – 24th March, 2021

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Taking on a World of Words. Anyone can take part and it is a great way of sharing what you have just finished reading, what you are currently reading and what is next on the TBR.

Links are provided for books mentioned – thanks for supporting my blog with any purchases (at no extra cost to you!)

What have you recently finished reading?

I finally finished Katie Fforde’s, ‘A Wedding in the Country’ on NetGalley. This has been slow progress because I’m struggling with headaches when reading digitally after Covid and because blog tour books kept getting in the way. However, this is – as expected – a charming and uplifting read set in the 1960s and a London that is just starting to swing, even if social attitudes aren’t generally so liberal. My review is here.

I’ve also read ‘Art in the Blood’ by Bonnie MacBird, the first in her Sherlock Holmes series. I read the 4th book, ‘The Three Locks’, for a blog tour (my review was up yesterday here) and absolutely loved it so I just had to start with the first book. I really enjoyed this book about a stolen statue and a missing child – MacBird is especially strong on making her characters come to life and there is a comforting familiarity about Holmes’ world even if the story itself isn’t always cosy. Review to follow.

I have zoomed through ‘The Shadow in the Glass’ by JJA Harwood for a blog tour – my review will be up on Saturday. I loved this retelling of Cinderella – it is so much more wide-ranging than that description suggests. This one is deliciously dark and set – ideally for me – in Victorian London.

What are you reading now?

I have more books on the go than I can keep up with!

I’m nearing the end of ‘How to Live. What to Do’ by Josh Cohen, a psychoanalyst who looks at life through the lens of literature. I have enjoyed being immersed in the dual worlds of psychoanalysis and literature, a perfect pairing. This is a gifted copy from the publisher – a review will follow.

I’m still reading ‘Insatiable’ by Daisy Buchanan which is proving to be blush-inducingly rude but also very funny. I have no idea where the story is going but it has made my head spin so far!

I am also still reading ‘Tomorrow Sex Will Be Good Again’ by Katherine Angel on the recommendation of the lovely Ellie H on Twitter. It is a really interesting look at issues around sex and consent.

What do you think you will read next?

I have my eye on ‘The Road Trip’ by Beth O’Leary – I have loved her other books and cannot wait to curl up with this one.

‘Dangerous Women’ by Hope Adams is another book that seems to be calling to me from my TBR. I am a huge fan of historical fiction, doubly so if it is crime fiction – so this one really appeals.

I’m also keen to read some of the other excellent crime fiction novels in the pile of unread books. The new M J Arlidge book, ‘Truth or Dare’, looks excellent, as does book 2 in Bonnie MacBird’s Sherlock series, ‘Unquiet Spirits’.

Many thanks to NetGalley, blog tour hosts, publishers and authors for books in exchange for an honest review.

    1. They are so good! I think I’ve still got a few of the early ones that I haven’t read but are on my TBR x
